Joe Roman

Listed: Dispatches from America’s Endangered Species Act

Tuesday, April 24

7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

deKoven House Community Center

“I discovered in my travels

that a law protecting all animals and plants, all of nature,

might be as revolutionary–and as American–as the Declaration of Independence. …”

America’s ground-breaking, comprehensive–and at times, controversial– Endangered Species Act was passed nearly 40 years ago.  In his recent book, researcher and author Joe Roman explores the successes, failures, and future promise of  the ESA, drawing from years of studies and field interviews.  More than a general history of endangered species, Listed is a tale of threatened species in the wild, and the inspiring people from all walks of life working to save them.

Employing methods from the new field of ecological economics, Dr. Roman explains how preserving biodiversity can help economies and communities thrive.

Author presentation will be followed by an informal reception.
