DESCRIPTION:Shoreline League of Democratic Women to Host Citizens United / Campaign Finance Forum Free to the Public\, Thursday\, April 5\, 7pm at the Guilford Library\, Guilford\, CT Westbrook\, CT – March 21\, 2012 -- The Shoreline League of Democratic Women (SLDW) announced today it will present a panel discussion forum on the Citizens United Supreme Court decision and campaign financing. The program will be held on Thursday April 5\, 7:00 pm\, at the Guilford Library\, 67 Park Street\, on the Guilford Green. It will be free and open to the public. Senator Richard Blumenthal will deliver the opening remarks. Participating on the panel will be William Dunlap\, Professor of Law at the Quinnipiac University School of Law; Andrew Schatz\, President of the CT ACLU Board of Directors; and Cheri Quickmire\, executive director of CT Common Cause. For more information\, visit www.SLDW.org. In this election year\, Connecticut will join other states that have already experienced the huge\, unlimited amount of money being spent by individuals and corporations on non-stop political advertising. The unlimited and largely secretive nature of these contributions is legal as a result of the Supreme Court’s decision in the Citizens United case two years ago. This panel discussion forum will help citizens gain a better understanding of the court decision\, the campaign financing problem it created\, and possible solutions to solve the problem. The views and opinions expressed during this presentation do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of the SLDW. For more information call 860-669-7034 or visit www.SLDW.org. The SLDW has membership in the towns of Clinton\, Westbrook\, Old Saybrook\, Lyme\, Old Lyme\, Centerbrook\, Essex\, Ivoryton\, Deep River\, Chester\, Killingworth\, Madison\, Guilford and Branford. About the Shoreline League of Democratic Women The Shoreline League of Democratic Women is a social and political fellowship that unites Democratic women along the shoreline\, and focuses on issues important to women of all ages. Women are encouraged to join the SLDW and participate in the organization’s valuable work in the community.  Participation may be 30 minutes a month\, or 30 minutes a year. As a part of the SLDW educational charter\, members will be notified of important pending state and national legislation.
