Kim Jeffery, President and CEO of Nestlé Waters North America, will speak at the Yale University School of Forestry & Environmental Studies on Monday, April 2nd at 12:00PM in the Burke Auditorium, 195 Prospect St. The talk, entitled “Remaking Recycling in the US: The Potential of Extended Producer Responsibility, A Conversation with Kim Jeffery” is organized by the Industrial Environmental Management (IEM) Program.
The talk is the eighth of a special 2010/2012 IEM Speaker Series sponsored by Nestlé Waters North America. In its 21st year, the IEM Lecture Series brings speakers from companies and organizations to the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies to discuss the relationship between business and the environment. This lecture series on Producers, Packaging and Public Policy explores the topic of extended producer responsibility (EPR) and packaging. The goal of the series is to explore the advantages and disadvantages of the application of EPR to packaging waste and municipal solid waste more generally in the U.S.
Kim Jeffery has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé Waters North America Inc. since 1992. Nestlé Waters North America, a division of Nestlé S.A., the global food and beverage company is the largest bottled water company in North America with 10 brands, over 9,000 employees, 27 plants, more than 100 facilities, and $4.2 billion in sales.
Throughout his tenure, Mr. Jeffery has made environmental stewardship a priority and has been an industry leader in building green plants, reducing water use, protecting 14,000 acres around more than 100 spring sites which NWNA owns, and reducing raw material usage through light-weighting and self manufacture of packaging. Recently, Mr. Jeffery and Nestle Waters have taken a leadership role in U.S. discussions about recycling, arguing that EPR has the potential to resolve long-standing challenges and to boost recycling rates significantly and cost-effectively.
