State’s Fastest Growing Community College Opens New Haven Campus

Gateway Community College (GCC) recently held grand opening ceremonies for its new $198 million downtown campus, one of the largest construction projects the state of Connecticut has ever undertaken. The new campus brings hundreds of jobs and thousands of students to downtown New Haven and adds a new higher education partner to the downtown landscape.

New Gateway solar energy lab to help local workforce reap benefits of recent energy legislation

  NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (Nov. 17, 2011) — Gateway Community College’s Center for a Sustainable Future unveiled its new solar energy laboratory today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour. Located on the college’s North Haven campus, the lab allows GCC to offer one of the region’s few solar installation training programs with a hands-on component.

When green jobs open up, will workforce be there?

Gateway Community College in New Haven had great expectations for the inaugural term of its Center for a Sustainable Future, with 10 continuing education courses from hands-on solar training in a brand-new lab to certification as a sustainable building adviser. But so far, only two of the courses have enough people enrolled to make them viable.

Aug. 26 deadline to apply for new clean water management scholarships at GCC

A new collaboration between Gateway Community College and the Connecticut Green Jobs Partnership has made 11 scholarships available for the fall semester to students who commit to completing GCC’s new SOAR Clean Water Management Certificate Program by May 2012. The deadline to apply for the scholarships is Aug. 26.

Nine unemployed individuals are ready to begin a new “green” job skills program offered through Gateway Community College’s Center for a Sustainable Future that will not only train them how to carefully deconstruct buildings and reuse materials, but also lead to jobs with the a Hamden company that is a partner with the project.
