It’s mating season for Long Island Sound’s horseshoe crabs. Every year, a group of biologists from Sacred Heart University scour Connecticut’s beaches to track and tag these ancient creatures. I met up with one group in Milford, under a full moon at midnight, to learn more. Here’s a quick primer on basic horseshoe crab biology.

Maritime Aquarium Seeks Volunteers To Tag Horseshoe Crabs

The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk is looking for volunteers to help its researchers with a project to tag horseshoe crabs in Long Island Sound.

The spring horseshoe crab mating migration will be occurring soon, and staff from The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk need your help in documenting it. The Aquarium is seeking volunteers to help attach census tags to the horseshoe crabs as they – the crabs – come up out of the water to spawn at Norwalk’s Calf Pasture Beach.
