BP Investigates New Oil Sheen in Gulf of Mexico

I know: There are thousands of oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. Many probably spill many gallons of oil into the Gulf everyday. But I still cannot get myself to pull into a BP station to fill my tires with air, no less my tank with gasoline. Do you use BP gas? If so, why?



Shell accepts liability for two oil spills in Nigeria

Papers seen by the UK newspaper the Guardian show that following a class action suit in London over the past four months, Shell has accepted responsibility for the 2008 double rupture of the Bodo-Bonny trans-Niger pipeline that pumps 120,000 barrels of oil a day though the community.

Many other impoverished communities are now expected to seek damages for oil pollution against Shell in the British courts. On average, there are three oil spills a day by Shell and other companies working in the area. Shell consistently blames the spills on local youths who, they argue, sabotage their network of pipelines.

The Coast Guard is working with Connecticut to clean an oil spill. The Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound’s pollution response team and the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection are investing the source of an oil spill and conducting clean up operations.
