Rare sturgeon found along Connecticut River in Lyme

The rare nearly 7-foot-long Atlantic sturgeon that weighs about 100 pounds was found Saturday near Elys Ferry Road. “It had been here a while, it started to decay…started to smell,” said eyewitness Gary Weed. State trying to protect Atlantic sturgeon

Atlantic sturgeon — large, angular fish that can be 12 to 14 feet long, weigh 300 to 400 pounds and live 50 to 100 years — have became one of the newest additions to the federal Endangered Species List, qualifying them for greater protection and restoration efforts. The Day of New London reports.
