The Connecticut DEP and the Connecticut Greenways Council today announced that they are now soliciting nominations for official state greenway designations.

If Windsor accepts a proposal by town manager Peter Souza, the dream of Riverfront Recapture’s trails extending into other towns, may become a reality.

U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy gathered with several regional officials at the Kent Falls State Park on Thursday to formally announce a $5,000 grant that will help improve bicycle trails in the region.

The former Pomfret train station will re-open Saturday Oct. 9 as a pavilion and information center for hikers and bikers. The trail cuts through two Audubon nature preserves in Pomfret and a third in Hampton.

Over the last two years, efforts to build a trail or walkway along the eastern side of the Margerie Reservoir have largely dried up.

The Norwalk River Valley Trail — an idea that’s been around for years — is moving from the realm of the possible to something far more tangible, starting this month.

A long path lies ahead before cyclists and pedestrians may traverse a 27-mile trail from Norwalk to Danbury, but on Monday five communities, including Redding, announced an important first step toward the goal.

The Council of Governments of the Central Naugatuck Valley (COGCNV) is holding a public meeting for the Regional Naugatuck River Greenway Routing Study on Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. at their offices at 60 N. Main St., Third Floor, Waterbury.

The Shoreline Greenway Trail creators have run into a few speed bumps in creating a multi-town nature trail, and the road to completion may be getting a bit bumpier.
